drinking sunshine
by the
gallon.
my
mocassins
on the
dashboard.
my soul
behind the wheel of
this car.
the sky
is the shade of blue
we used to crayon
it in
grade school. a crucifix
dangles
swaying in the
light breeze; it
hangs from my rear-
view mirror.
busy people
in busyness attire
lurk by my
unrolled window
but i am
too sunkissed
too punchdrunk
to give a damn
about
anyonething.
the piano
seeps through
my stereo.
idle,
and in love
with the holy day
i lower my seat
down
and lay careless
and unshowered
caressed
beneath god’s
amphitheater.
the clouds
are
tiny
individualistic
adventurous
lonely
happy
renegades
floating.
they mimick me.
i don’t think about
the smog on the
bumper-to-bumper
road.
i don’t think about
being twenty-four
next month.
and i definitely
don’t think about
the fact that i am
loitering
in the parking lot
of an evil
banking
corporation.

Feel the warmth! Nice!
I like hearing you read this.
Aw! Thank you! Between you and me, I HATE recording myself reading poems, but it’s quickly growing on me, and this makes me feel better.

I love this piece. The carefree feeling it gives.
You’re not the first one to say that! Thank you! It was a fantastic day. Just kind of got out of the house and end up in a parking lot of a wells fargo.
I also like hearing you read it – the intended cadence.
Thanks for that too. I just started the recordings and I’m really enjoying doing them.
evil
banking
corporation
Is there any other kind?
Haha. I guess it is very redundant.
Yes. Evil banking corporation is right on – but, you sound like your state of mind on that day had risen above in a most wonderful way – I really enjoyed this poem. Best, Kartika
It almost feels like you’re speaking out loud, maybe more than is necessary? I respect that the quality of recording equipment may play a hand in this but as ever your poetry is stirring; always enjoy reading your work.
Thanks for the feedback. I think you’re right.
I think somehow that adds to it. Hope to hear more reading soon!
