CONVERSATION WITH BRIAN ENO.

hey.
how’s it going?
i don’t really know you.
i think i missed just about everything
that you ever did.
sorry.
i’m working on getting caught up.
but right now.
i’m just listening to your ambient stuff.
it’s become an archetype really.
the band musician who goes on
to make the kind of dreary music you hear
in the background of artsy films.
trent reznor must have gotten the cue from you.
not to assume.
i mean
maybe he has no idea who you are
and what you do
but that seems very unlikely.

please don’t get me wrong.
i’m not insulting you by any means.
as a writer especially
i appreciate the ambient stuff.
so many artists just want to cram agenda
down your throat.
personal agenda.
definition of love agenda.
political agenda.
existential agenda.
i know.
i’m a poet.
i’m a hypocrite.
and i’m guilty of having agendas.
i think it’s impossible to be a poet
and not have an agenda.
even not having an agenda is a bit of an
anti-agenda.

i think it’s impossible to be a poet
and not be a hypocrite.

it’s hard to not be a hypocrite
in general.

did gandhi ever have a cheat day
when he was fasting?

sorry.
that was rude.
you don’t even know me.
now i’ve gone and made some terrible impression
on some bald artist i don’t even know.

it’s okay.
i’m bald too.
us bald guys got to stick together.
this song of yours has wind chimes.
very clever.
no, seriously.
i’m not making fun of you.
i’m just jealous is all.
i have to try to capture moods with words.
i can’t do anything musical.
i had a short stint with a guitar
but it ended like a lot of my relationships;
i got bored and just forgot it ever happened.

ever just have a day where you just don’t
answer your phone?

i think i’ll have one tomorrow.

is eno really your last name?
seems too perfect.
like lana del rey.

but sincerely.
i like your stuff.
i’m curious why MGMT wrote a song
about you.
i’m curious why you’re so famous.
curious being the correct word.
not confused.
i just know you did something important
but i don’t know what.

i was watching a documentary
on national parks
and they talked about teddy roosevelt
and i realized
that i never realized
what a badass he was.
he basically was president
and spent the whole time camping
and reminding this country
that we were the western western world
and that we should just try to hold on to this.
make some effort to not screw it up.
human nature, i guess.
wait for the last opportune moment.

but anyways
my point is
i never knew.
teddy roosevelt.
now my favorite president.
maybe you’re my favorite musician
and i just don’t know it yet.
i’m looking forward to hearing
what you have to say, brian eno.

okay.
now it’s your turn to talk.

READ “MY NIGHT WITH A CUMULONIMBUS CLOUD”

THAT GOOD OLD-FASHIONED DUBSTEP

you can have your post-grunge grindcore
you can dance the night away to your anti-trip hop
let the acid jazz wash over your bluetooth system
it’s always been that good old-fashioned dubstep for me

you can sway and swing to your nerdcore all night
you can sing aloud those industrial gospel blues
and ride down the freeway
with your tapedeck playing your neofolk gypsy punk
it’s always been that good old-fashioned dubstep for me

i’ll take my iPhone five off the shelf and dust it off
and press play on my spotify
because it’s that dubstep fade-in
and that dubstep drop
that really soothes my weary soul

you can have your bikutsi lo-fi
and your bossanova reggaetone
you can keep your experimental k-pop
and your happy hardcore freak folk
it’s always been
that good old-fashioned dubstep for me

CALL FOR BLOGGERS

Hi Everyone:

First off, thank you all so much for your support of 02.2013. In my opinion, it was a great success. It was very interesting forcing myself to write something each day, and doing something I really like to, which is trying to widen the spectrum of my poems as much as possible.

Now, I’m beginning work on a new project, which I’m going to give a working title of ANT Magazine, until I have an official title.

I am looking for motivated to people to work for this blog and I am looking for a wide variety of things.

I have decided to drive this blog/ online magazine from the idea that bloggers can post what they want/ when they want. I want my bloggers to have the freedom to do as they please, because I want them to have fun, and in turn, for the blog to be fun. Thus far, I have a couple poets signed on, photographers, artists, and even a pair of guys who are going to write about bad b-movies. Here’s some ideas of what else I’d be looking for.

  • Reviewers (Music, Movies, Book, Calendars, Gyms, Restaurants, Starbucks locations, I don’t care)
  • Artists (I don’t care if you make GIFs,or intricate water paintings or digital art, I could be looking for what you have. I’d really even like to have a talented doodler.)
  • Alt Lit People (If you don’t know what alt lit is, this one doesn’t apply to you. If you do, I want your poetry, I want your memes, I want your short stories.)
  • Film (I am really looking for good youtubers to post videos to the site. Once again, open-minded to what you got. I would love some funny videos.)
  • Photographers (I would love photographers whose pieces stand alone and I would also love photographers who if I said “take me pictures related to “night” or “fourth of July” could deliver them in about a week. Experience does not matter. Talent and motivation do.
  • I would really like to have someone to write on feminism on the blog, as this is a topic that is very important to me.
  • Anything else. If you hula hoop, and want to post instructional hula hoop videos, I’d like you to apply. If you sing and play guitar, send me your videos. If you are a badass list maker or nutritionist or tech geek, I’d like you to apply.

IMPORTANT NOTE! You do not have to be American. I want this blog to have a global community and other cultures and countries are not only requested to apply, but I insist they do. I do have to ask that you can write English though. I’m sorry.

Most of all, I want people sharing their passions. I’m trying to make a community out of this. I want my bloggers interacting with our readers. I want people to have a reason to come back, and I want this to be a blog about sharing with the world, not making money. (haha… blogs making money.)

If you are interested, please send me something about yourself and an example of what you have to offer to bricemaiurro@gmail.com.

I hope everyone interested will apply.

Thank you,

Brice

(when you said you liked the beatles.)

when you said you liked the beatles
the oxygenless night exploded into day
the grey clouds were wiped from the sky
like billows of white from a chalkboard
your eyes lit up like a thousand suns
into the reflection of my radioactive moonlight
and we eclipsed into the caverns of love

when you said you liked the beatles
i could feel my heart growing like bamboo
on steroids into the hollows of my arms
and overwhelmed my body began to sing
a duet with you laced with great hope
a great hope in the divine and that the heavens
weren’t just those blue squigglies above
the red house and the brown dog in a child’s drawing
on a fridge

when you said you liked the beatles
i became filled with a rage of joy
something i didn’t think possible
i found myself dancing through lines
at the d.m.v. and driving one hundred mph
into the mountains to go find the heart
that i now knew was still beating

when you said you liked the beatles
fantastic wings sprouted from your back
and i began to paint an electric portrait of you
psychedelic and visceral and honest to the aura
you possess inside your home of a house

when you said you liked the beatles
i fell in love with you
as we danced to something
pouring out of the loudspeakers
in the streets of denver
like crystalline drops of water
that have resonated eternally
through the last fifty years
and will continue to resonate
forever ever into the cosmos
and where the walls of time
fold in onto themselves and
everyone loves the beatles
the beatles are everyone’s band
but when you said you loved the beatles
i remembered there are such things
in this world that exist that we all feel
that will never be captured
that do not drown in the sands of an hourglass
but form great glasshouses
immune to any stones you could throw

they just remain
in the minds
and the hearts
and the guts
of the mass populace
of incredible lovely people
forever ever into the cosmos
and where the walls of time
fold in onto themselves
like the crescendo
in the middle of
a day in the life

(stella blues.)

stella
oh, my baby, stella
you are the one that i cradle in my arms
when we can’t pay the rent
when the landlord is banging at the door
in the starlit night we just sit
on my alabama porch
and i count the stars like pennies
and you sing me a twelve bar song

stella
oh, my baby, stella
your curves were made with intention
i met you at a pawn shop
and as soon as i saw you
pressed up against the wall
i knew i would give
a twenty-dollar gold piece
right off my watch cahin
just to have you

and you came on home with me
in the dark, dark mississippi night
and we stayed up
through the blackest of
black georgia twilight
and we talked about your skin
we laughed about the cost of everything
and i put my hand on your neck
and you took my other hand
and you pointed it up towards the north star

you spoke in rhythm
that was not lost on me
everything i said
you said right back to me
but with poetry
like an old blues song
grown from the deep south of your love

your fingertips like work songs
your field drab lips like field hollers
your wide, wide hips like spirituals

stella
oh, my baby, stella
i take you with me everywhere i go
together we’re safe from the black rum booze
together we’re safe from these blue devil blues
when i play you like a guitar
you play me right back
and i love you for it
oh, my baby, stella
i love you for it

(puppy love.)

i remember standing beside you at the edge of the world
hand in hand you turned to me and said we should jump
i said i’m not one for suicide and you said it’s not suicide
it’s romantic.

you thought there was nothing more romantic than two lovers
choosing when and where and why and how they want to die

i was never afraid of heights nor commitment
but looking down on the jagged rocks below
the bubbling water crashing and the face of death
i realized in that moment i was afraid of both

and to think this was what i loved most about you
the way you dragged me through chaos
like a hand pulling me through a packed concert
to the front of the stage
where the music was so loud our ears bled
and the lights were so bright we went blind
but we were content to feel the vibrations
and our hands touching the feet of gods
you took your shirt off and threw it at them
standing there in your leopard-print bra i remembered
that you were never one to take anything seriously
your best and worst quality

one of those times you pulled too hard
and my arm came out of its socket
you dragged it around for hours
before you thought to look behind you
to see i was gone and i wasn’t just gone
i was walking in the opposite direction

it’s not addiction
how do you explain it?
you do something
and you do it
and you keep doing it
until it stops being fun
but with addiction you escape
with this
i just walked away
there were no withdrawal symptoms
like a cold haze
like that scene in Fargo
where everything is just white

i erased it all
the scratches on my back healed
i was no martyr
and you were no angel
we were just young and reckless
and in love
stupid love
puppy love
the kind that needs constant attention
and pisses on the floor when you’re not paying attention
and we left the door open
maybe intentionally
and it ran away

surprise, surprise

(beck #1.)

sitting in the attic of the basement of heaven
quarter past half past ten til eleven
looking for a reason in the garbage disposal
divorce papers for the marriage proposal

camera flash jump back ice cream truck
standing in line with the sitting ducks
earning my wages a day at a time now
squares trying to figure out where is the line now

i work tomorrow morning so i’m gonna sleep in
if heaven has a problem with me, let me sin
tell me what to do from nine to five
i’m certain when i’m dead i’ll feel less alive

flipping channels through the ocean t.v. in the water
the birds fly south but the weather gets hotter
met a man from texas who was chronically single
looking for a good place to try and mingle

desperate little bars and repetitious lovers
find more than flashlights underneath the covers
dedicate my will to the future leaders
bury me in armor and my favorite sneakers
