PORTRAIT OF A FAMILY TRAPPED IN TIME

dog stuck midair
tongue out black eyes wide

baby crying
face all smashed peas
cheeks all tears

cat hiding under bed

chairs are still
were before
extra still

table

dresser

slightly cracked drawers

clock on wall above the fire
the hands together frozen where they are

praying

fire below the clock
frozen flames

master bedroom

the bed all made up

throw pillows

clothes still on
shoes

wife and husband

eyes stuck fixated on a cracked ceiling

their hands so close not touching

painful is the art of silent intention
